When drivers are not paying attention, pedestrians who are walking, running, roller skating, or biking can be seriously injured or killed. Although we should be safe from injury when we are on the sidewalk or in a crosswalk, that is sadly not the reality, especially in light of the increase in distracted driving.  When a pedestrian is hit by a vehicle, even at a low speed, the pedestrian can be seriously or even fatally injured.

If you have been injured by or lost a loved one because of a driver’s decision not to pay attention to the roadway and follow the safety rules, you may have a personal injury or wrongful death claim.

Pedestrian Accidents

Alcohol, speeding, and location are the leading causes of pedestrian accidents.

Leading causes of pedestrian accidents:

  • Alcohol was involved for the driver and/or pedestrian in nearly half (46%) of crashes that resulted in a pedestrian death in 2019.

  • Higher vehicle speeds increase both the likelihood of a pedestrian being struck by a car and the injury severity.

  • Most pedestrian deaths occur in urban areas, on roadway locations away from intersections (where higher speeds might occur), and at night.
